Rensselaer Middle School
Rensselaer Middle School is a small school that offers big opportunities to all students. Our goal is to motivate all students to become lifelong learners. Our faculty and staff model the importance of lifelong learning through their work in professional development workshops which focus on content, curriculum and practice.
We have a comprehensive and challenging academic program. Students are able to take honors classes in math and English, and Integrated Algebra at grade 8 in addition to the core courses of science, social studies, Spanish and reading. A student’s schedule in middle school will also include Project Lead the Way, home and careers, art, music and health. Middle school band and chorus are popular options for many of our students.
Character education is a central point in our program and school. Student leadership and community action are highlighted at each grade level. Over the past two years students in grades 6 and 7 have participated in the College for Every Student program. The program emphasizes leadership, mentoring and college awareness. All students will be given opportunities to visit neighboring colleges. Students in grades 6 and 7 have become mentors for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in Van Rensselaer Elementary. Service learning and leadership workshops are also provided for students as part of the program.
